In greenhouses and closed irrigation systems, waterborne pathogens — primarily Pythium, Phytophthora, and Fusarium — are among the greatest causes of crop loss. Drainage water recirculation dramatically amplifies these risks: a single infected plant can spread pathogens throughout the entire system via its drainage water.
Low-dose ozonation eliminates this risk at the source: the 0.1–0.5 mg/L residual ozone range is considered safe for plant roots while being effective at pathogen inactivation. ORP sensor integration allows automatic dose adjustment. Integrating ozone into drainage water recirculation lines can reduce water and fertiliser consumption by 20–40% (hydroponic system research). Reduced chemical pesticide use preserves organic certification compliance.
